Apple could be designing its own power management chip as well
Apple already has planned to design its own graphics microchip for the iPhone, but the company doesnt plan to stop there. Harmonizing to Reuters and German investment banks, Apple is groups together a team to design its own artillery management microchip for the iPhone.
By designing its own chips, Apple could go a bit further than high standards power management microchip, originating the iPhone a bit more efficient when it is necessary to power usage. This route, the company could beat Android producers when it comes to battery life.
Apple currently works with German supplier Dialog Semiconductor. Dialog told Exane that the company has already designed the power management chips for the next 2 iPhones in 2017 and 2018 so dont expect to see changes any time soon.
But happens could change in 2019, as Apple could be groups together its own squad in Germany. The fellowship has been poaching Dialog architects to affiliate Apple.
Apple sells tens of millions of iPhones every year. Todays news could have a big impact on Dialog. Thats why Dialog shares are currently trading down 15 percent.
Its interesting to note that Apple is moving down its supplying order and changing its most important suppliers one by one. Apple wants to control everything about its iPhone. And it seems logical, given that it is by far the companys more successful device.
